Hello everyone and welcome to Ruby House. My name is Carron Popplewell and I am the Ruby House Leader, as well as a teacher of Science and Italian.
As the houses are becoming more prominent in the activities of the Academy the students are proud to belong to Ruby House and have taken part willingly in the activities and events organised so far. I see my role as being the co-ordinator, along with the other House Leaders, of activities, events and competitions that will help our students to grow and develop both academically and spiritually. However in Ruby House we are supported by an excellent group of staff who are a great help and support when it comes to organising things. We as House Leaders are great believers in the fact that everyone has an area in which they shine and one of our jobs is to provide an opportunity for them to show all the school their talent, whilst gaining house points for Ruby of course. The house system is built around competitions to encourage the competitive element of our students but the House Leaders are very much aware that taking part is an important part of school life and so students will always be awarded for taking part in any house event.
As head of Ruby House, I have an excellent team of staff behind me as well as some of the most enthusiastic students. We won the house competition last year and not necessarily by being the best at everything. We won by participation points, which meant that we had more students taking part in events than any other house. That means that more students were trying something new which could be the area at which they excel. This is one of the key ideas that under-pins my philosophy of the house system. Everyone excels at something - it’s my job to help them find it.

Respect is one of the Key values of life and if you follow the 3R’s then you won’t go far wrong. These are;
Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Respect other people’s things.
